Description

Lieberman is highly entertaining, mixing the hard science with entertaining elements to make it more vivid, transporting it directly into the long term memory, except of course one is too stoned on dopamine and the data transmission affected by too much of whatever emotion. Long present a potentially life-changing proposal: Much of human life has an unconsidered component that explains an array of behaviors previously thought to be unrelated, including why winners cheat, why geniuses often suffer with mental illness, why nearly all diets fail, and why the brains of liberals and conservatives really are different. Für mich waren die meisten Inhalte leider schon bekannt und deshalb ist mein Dopaminspiegel nicht allzu hoch. However, dopamine will wane and as it does so, we start to lose that feeling that we have and we want to seek something else.

Creierul nostru este programat să tânjească după neprevăzut şi, astfel, să se uite spre viitor, acolo unde începe fiecare posibilitate captivantă. An example of this is in a study where people in 2 groups were split and divided into being 1 set offered chocolate cookies that had been baked nearby so the room was full of the aroma of freshly baked food, and others were given radishes. A pesar del flojeo final le pongo un 4/5 y se lo recomiendo especialmente a los interesados en psicología/sociología. There is a story about Nash in which he is asked how he can possibly believe that he is being contacted by aliens, to which he responds: “the ideas I have about supernatural beings come to me the same way that my mathematical ideas do.I'm in two minds about this book: it has made me think about things I've never considered before in a new light and done so in a memorable, fun way. I was hoping for an in-depth look at the science but honestly felt like I didn't learn anything new because the book didn't dwell into studies and science and instead spent a lot of time on its theories on relationships, liberals vs conservative personalities, and the future of the human race. It took a long time to read it because it's the type of content I would like to keep in and be aware of the processes within me when I react to things (not easy for my emotion-driven self).

I also listened to their interview on the Art of Manliness podcast which I would recommend giving a listen as a great primer before reading their book.

Our authors cautious us, noting that “in an environment of plenty in which we have mastered our world and developed sophisticated technology—in a time when more is no longer a matter of survival—dopamine continues to drive us forward, perhaps to our own destruction. Anyway, reading this book, I feel I got a new vision in understanding and categorizing people's behaviors and characters and even made me know myself better and that's where it's unique revolutionary effect was on my views.
